Mentoring younger students is an aspiration for many St Peter’s Sixth Formers, and one which we can help them fulfill. An extensive peer mentoring programme has been developed over the past two years, with hundreds of sixth formers taking part and positively influencing the lives and daily experiences of our younger students.
Mentoring opportunities can take many forms:
- Sixth form subject mentors and Subject Prefects support other students in their specialist areas. This can involve running lunchtime or after school clubs, hosting competitions, assisting with revision sessions, and much more.
- A mentoring ‘buddy system’ provides younger students who may be unsettled or suffering friendship issues with an additional port of call for support.
- Our whole school house system – consisting of 4 houses, 8 colleges – provides additional opportunities for leadership and mentoring – through our half-termly vertical tutor groups, and also through Sixth Form House Leaders.
